Explanation
(a) Four problems facing Agriculture in Nigeria include:
(i) Inadequate labour
– rural depopulation
– drift to the towns/ mines etc leaving old people on the farm
(ii) Land tenure system giving rise to fragmentation of farm holding
(iii) Inadequate capital
(iv) Use of crude implements e.g hoe, cutlass etc.
(b) Three effects of the above problems on the economic development of Nigeria are:
(i) High prices of agricultural products
(ii) Shortage of foods
(ii) Reduction of income to farmers/government
(c) Solutions to the above problems in (a);
(i) Improvement of rural areas by government
(ii) Introduction of land reforms
(iii) Granting !cans to farmers
(iv) Provision of tractors, plough harrow at reduced price
